Disinfection with ultraviolet provides disinfection of microorganisms without adding any chemicals or oxidants to the water. The disinfection system, which produces short UV waves using a low-pressure mercury lamp, neutralizes bacteria, protozoa, viruses, molds, fungi, algae and their eggs.

In UV systems, an aluminum or stainless steel bed surrounds the lamp, and the water passing through this bed is bombarded with UV rays. The working principle of the UV system is to neutralize microorganisms by disrupting their DNA and RNA structures.

In order for UV disinfection to be complete, the water should not be cloudy or colored. Therefore, a 5 micron filter is generally recommended before UV. Its ability to kill germs decreases over time and it is recommended to replace the lamp approximately once a year. Ultraviolet systems generally consist of a stainless steel body (ray chamber).
